3 Tips on Getting Your Songs Noticed

Before even starting to work on your next track, it’s important to think about how can you make it get more attention than your last track so you can be noticed as an artist. Here are some tips on that…

4 THOUGHTS FROM ME

1. Make a remix, or cover, of a song that is well known in the market. For example, ACRAZE picked the vocals from Cherish’s ‘Do It’ and made ‘Do It To It’, with over 188 Million plays on Spotify. You may not have the copyright to do it, but you can release it as a free download on Soundcloud and get massive attention out of it if the song is really good. Be careful with copyright since you can’t release copyrighted material on Spotify, but you could get away with it on Soundcloud as a Free Download. Therefore, pick a vocal you like, change it up with pitch or tempo, and start making something out of it!

2. Use your insecurities to your advantage. Pick something that you’re struggling with and make a song out of it, especially if you can translate them into lyrics. Au/Ra made a song called ‘Panic Room’ where she describes the panic and anxiety attacks she constantly had, and that was a massive hit because people relate to these situations. Speaking to a crowd that feels unheard can often be what will make them love you even more.

3. Merge two genres. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, merging two genres can often be a way to stand out from what is being released. For example, if you’re making a dark progressive song, you could incorporate some elements that you’ve never seen in the genre like guitar licks. However, don’t go too far ‘out of the box’ as labels tend to like things that are on ‘the edge of the box’, otherwise, it won’t fit into their catalog.

4. Build a strong artist persona for your music. If people like you, they will tend to like what you do. For example, FISHER is a goof and I only listen to his songs because I laughed a lot at his Instagram posts and then bothered to listen to his song. Your art is mainly sustained by your music, but all the big players in the industry have a really present artist persona as well. Start developing this and you’ll get more attention to your music as well.

1 QUESTION FOR YOU

How can you make your song a bit more relatable to make it stand out a bit more?

1. Add a vocal that people relate to and the song can easily hook the listener as they can sing along with it;
2. Build yourself a character and start creating a brand around your artistry. Music artists are sustained by their music, but you’re not only a musician as a music artist;
3. Pick a classic song you really like and make a cover or remix out of it. Covers you can later release them once you clear them, but remixes you can capture the same essence of the original (beware of copyrights).
