Master the Art of SAMPLING KICKS From Your Favorite Tracks

You could have created the perfect track, but if your kick doesn’t work, it will ruin your tune and unless you change it, there won’t be much you can do to save your song. Therefore, why not pick a kick sample that has worked before in other tunes and use it on your own tracks so, this way, not only you avoid going through millions of samples, but also get a kick that has proven to be effective?

Kick-Waveform-And-Compression-Examples

In today’s video, I teach you how to sample the kicks from songs you love in THREE DIFFERENT WAYS, something that will definitely give you all the options to master this technique and get the perfect extraction out of tracks you love.

I’ve used this technique several times and I’ve released tracks on major labels like Enhanced and Armada that contain kicks that I’ve sampled, so this is not an excuse to not know how to use this technique. Even if you don’t have the WAV file, you can still get away with technique by using the 320Kbps MP3 file to do your extractions and it work wonders (also something that I’ve done before)

There are a couple recommendations for that to work though.

  1. Try to use the extended parts of song since these normally have cleaner kicks, which will make the extraction process a LOT easier
  2. You must use an EQ capable of doing linear phase EQing. For this, I recommend Fabfilter Pro-Q 3, which is not only the perfect tool for this, but also the best EQ out there in the market
  3. For technique #2 to work, you need a volume shaper capable of splitting the sound and different bands. For this, I recommend you to use VolumeShaper 6 by Cableguys.
  4. As mentioned, WAV files are recommended, although not essential to perform this extraction.
  5. Make sure the kick you’re extracting works in the key of your track. Make sure how to find the perfect key for your kick in this post.

Now, after you’ve extracted them, if you want to learn how to mix it properly, you head over to this post or just download our free low-end mixing guide in our free downloads’ tab.
